Double-crested Cormorant by Stan Bysshe

“The Green Cay Nature Center is a well-known wetland in Boynton Beach, Florida,” says Stan Bysshe. “Due to the large number of people using the sidewalks daily, the birds are quite accessible. This adult double-crested cormorant in full breeding color was not at all concerned about humans in its territory. Perched on a railing from the boardwalk, he showed off to the cormorants below in the marsh grass. Getting close for a head shot was no problem.
Equipment and settings: Nikon D5, Nikon 500mm f4 lens, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley gimbal head. 1/640, f4.0, ISO450.
Many thanks to our panel of guest judges: our founding editor and “Amazing Birds” columnist Eldon Greij; author, radio host and contributing editor Laura Erickson; And Outdoor photographer Editor Wes Pitts.
